Oficina Oito is a company that analyzes, develops, prototypes, and executes projects and ideas through woodworking. Our Fundamental Pillars - the 8 C's: Collaboration + Construction, Care + Trust, Growth + Creativity, and Knowledge + Collective. At Oficina Oito, we work in a network to analyze and prototype ideas, developing people's autonomy by teaching the necessary tools, providing creative expression through art and technology. We focus on bringing the necessary solutions to brands and individuals, providing flexibility, mobility, and autonomy through design and applied technologies, such as custom-designed digital fabrication.
About Fernanda Tosta:
Founder of Oficina Oito, designer and artist, researcher in collaborative methodologies, and creator of the Sociocreative Woodworking method, with which she develops workshops using creative processes focused on individual protagonism and life skills. She has worked on socio-educational projects as a carpentry teacher at the Tomie Ohtake Institute (2016-2018) and Casalab Mulher (2019), and as a mentor for collaborative projects at Hackathon Paulista (2015), Casa Fora de Casa (2016-2018), and Interactivos? (2016-2019).

I runned a woodshop at Barra Funda (west of São Paulo) there I designed and built with digital manufacture and tradicional tools - furnitures, art peaces, products for clients, friends and for me, also record some tutorial videos on Youtube. During the time before the pandemic situation I recieve circa 300 people that came to help, building stuff for them, as an assistence at my projects or just to enjoy and drink a beer in front of the cnc machine.

From January 2020 to February 2021, the Oficina Oito workshop was actively operating at Rua Conselheiro Brotero, 220, Barra Funda, where a series of custom-made furniture pieces were developed for clients, friends, and individuals who used the tools available in the workshop on a case-by-case basis. Office desks with drawers, adjustable trestles, laundry room furniture, three custom-designed kitchens, as well as collapsible or foldable chairs and tables for transport were produced. In addition to the furniture built, a series for UOL Edtech about Maker Culture in corporate spaces was filmed, among other content aimed at the DIY (Do It Yourself) audience.

Casa Bertha was designed to meet the diverse needs of its residents on a challenging yet very common plot of land in São Paulo, measuring only 5 meters wide. The project was primarily implemented through the following strategies: maximizing the use of space, creating flexible environments, and using multifunctional furniture. Furthermore, the house was conceived as a hardware capable of running different types of software, responding to varied demands. Thus, the living room, for example, ceases to be a private and family space, becoming a multi-purpose environment that, depending on its configuration, can be open to the city.
We (Oficina Oito) participated in the execution of the kitchen and the under-staircase cupboard. The choice of marine plywood as the predominant cladding material throughout the house's structure demonstrates how wood contributes to thermal, physical, and acoustic comfort, bringing a sense of sensory coziness. We also really enjoy using this material in our projects.
